Climb — and Photograph — Any Mountain (Travel Theme: Mountains)

Ailsa’s travel theme this week is Mountains.   I love seeing mountains, but I don’t like driving through them.   While I like looking at a stunning mountain vista, I don’t like getting too close to the edge.  So climbing isn’t something that I usually do either.   And yet, here are three images I have from doing those things.

Driving:

I’ve been the driver for a few trips on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  I much prefer being the passenger, as I was on this trip a few years ago with my sister, because you can enjoy the scenery.   I took the original photograph while at a scenic overlook somewhere near Asheville, North Carolina.  A little Photoshop* trickery here, as the original image was really blown out.  I think I captured the colors of what many sunsets in the mountains look like.

Climbing:

This was taken on what was really a steep hike, not a climb per se, although there were a few giant boulders one had to scramble to the top of.   Snapped this picture of my son once I was seated safely away from the ledge.  This photo was taken when he was 14 or 15 years old.  Now an adult, he refers to this period of long hair as “a regrettably bad idea”.   I don’t think he follows this blog, but this may prompt him to admit it if he does.

And this one.   Oh my! was this beautiful.   This was taken at the summit of a hike through the Brazilian rain forest.   I had the opportunity to hang glide from about 1/2 down this mountain to the beach below, but, after toying with the idea for a few seconds, decided to take the safer route — by foot! — back to the beach.   I likely will not have another opportunity to hang glide in Brazil, but maybe some day I’ll try it somewhere else.

  1. I love the look of your first image. I also like the way you’ve linked the different locations.
    Thank you for the pingback!

  2. Love how the sky and sea blend together in that last one!

    • Thanks. They really did seem to fade into each other. If you look closely, you can see a whitecap or two, but they look similar to the clouds. This bay may be the prettiest bay that I’ve ever seen.

  4. Your second photo didn’t come through on my screen. Has your son vetoed this?

    • Tony, I can see it just fine. Likely a momentary glitch on your end (or WordPress’). As far as I know, he hasn’t seen it, so no veto possible. 🙂 Now, if I had posted it to Facebook and tagged him , I’m sure I would get a text before the end of the day!

  5. Nice pics, thanks for including a link to mine!! ❤
