Taking pictures of nature always makes me more aware of the world around me and typically makes me wonder about the beauties and intricacies of the natural world. Here is a photo of some sort of sea critter that I found on a Southwest Florida beach last January. It was in the surf at low tide on the morning of a full moon. I was surprised by how beautiful this creature was. I have no idea what it is, despite trying to identify it. If you know, please let me know. That will be a surprise too!
This is part of the Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s theme: Surprise!

It is so unusual- did you find out what it is?
Ninasbreakfast suggested that it was a “pelagic anemone” (see comment on the photo page). I did a google search and saw some similar looking creatures in the images, so maybe that is what it is. Regardless, it is very pretty — and was a pleasant surprise to see on the beach after a storm.
It was extraordinary ..really!
I think, one of the sunburst sea anemones?

I’ve no idea but its beautiful – as long as it doesn’t sting!
I’m pretty sure it was dead, but I didn’t touch it just in case! Someone told me I should have turned it over to see the other side for help in identification. No way!
It is quite the intriguing critter! 🙂

Happy holidays to you to, EOF. I thought it was intriguing too. I hope I see another one again some time, although I’ve walked this same beach for the past 15 years and have never noticed something like this.
looks like some kind of a jellyfish.
Don’t think it was a jellyfish — at least not like any I’ve ever seen. It didn’t have any tentacles.
