Oh my! I didn’t know it was possible to drink too much coffee to any effect other than insomnia! I haven’t (hang my head in literary shame) read anything by Balzac but one of these days I might. My husband and I have this silly routine: if one of us is in NYC and at MoMA, we take a photo with our phones of the Rodin statue of Balzac and send it. It is sort of a ridiculous, larger-than-life sculpture, but, from what I understand, befitting Balzac!
I haven’t read anything of his since college, which was long long ago, but it is very memorable stuff. He wrote a lot, all of it fueled by 50 or so cups of coffee a day!
Balzac is one of my favorites ! What a life he had, the only person I know of who drank himself to death on coffee!
