Sunday Quote (2012, Week 26)

He was not of an age, but for all time! ~ Ben Jonson

O proud left foot, that ventures quick within
Then soon upon a backward journey lithe.
Anon, once more the gesture, then begin
Command sinistral pedestal to writhe.
Commence thou then the fervid Hokey-Poke.
A mad gyration, hips in wanton swirl.
To spin! A wild release from heaven’s yoke.
Blessed dervish! Surely canst go, girl.
The Hoke, the poke — banish now thy doubt
Verily, I say, ‘is what it’s all about.

The Hokey-Pokey Shakespeare Style was written by Jeff Brechlin, submitted to the Washington Post Style Invitation contest, March, 2003. It was the winning entry.

Great re-write. Too funny. I’ve only got one thing to add; something Shakespeare actually wrote: “A hall, a hall, give room! And foot it, girls!” :-)
